GoSun Solar Stove | Cook easy meals year round with solar vacuum tube technology!
As the weather dips in the Fall, we’re often asked how exactly is it that these stoves can cook so effectively even in the cold. To answer this, amongst other questions, we’ve created a handy FAQ.

How do solar vacuum tubes work?

Air is pulled out of a double layered borosilicate glass tube and permanently sealed, using a highly specialized process. Light is absorbed by the internal layer of the tube and stored as heat. Without air to transfer heat from the inside of the tube to the outside, the vacuum provides near perfect insulation from the cold.

Tow Men Planting Trees For The Future

We plants 20 trees for every stove sold. Of all actions we could take, why trees?

Sequestering CO2 aside, trees have a number of not so obvious functions that make them perhaps the single most powerful force for combating climate change and improving the lives of those in the world who live with the least. Having planted more than 10,000 trees to date in collaboration with Trees For The Future, we would like to share with you a few reasons why trees are a big deal.

Solar Cookers, Ovens and Stoves: Comparing The Options

Solar cooking has been getting a lot of good press in the last months, and for good reason! Solar cooking is a great idea for anyone looking to reduce their fuel use, keep their kitchen cool or find a more convenient alternative to a conventional stove.

Luckily, if you're searching for a solar cooker, you now have more options than ever. From an oven that can bake a Turkey, to a stove that can cook a meal under clouds and snow, solar cooking technology has come a long way since your grade pizza box oven!

Comparing stoves is like picking a car; each model excels for certain uses and but may fall short in others. If fact, it's common for solar chefs to combine technology to meet the needs of their situation and environment. In order to demystify the options, we have created a comparison looking the most popular solar cookers on the market. Due to the nature of the comparison, we have compared cooker types rather than models, with exception to the GoSun solar cooking devices which have no parallels.

Consider a few key questions before exploring your options:

  • Do you have good continuous sunlight where you intend to cook?
  • Are you willing to change cooking habits to adapt to a new technology?
  • Do you plan on using the stove daily or just on occasion?
  • Will you use your cooker at home or for on-the-go adventure?

After years of working with vacuum tube solar cookers and thousands of happy customers, we’ve become experts on the matter. In wake of our recent appearance on Top Chef, in which one of the cheftestants thermally shocked and broke their cooking tube, we’ve decided to address this matter head on.

Properly made vacuum tubes typically break from only one of two causes: a substantial impact or thermal shock. To put it simply, These tubes only break with user error.  Furthermore, GoSun would not be in business if our evacuated tubes exploded.  Due to the vacuum's reverse pressure, GoSun's cooking chambers actually implode if they break, they do not send projectiles of broken glass.

The Top Chef contestants had absolutely no time to familiarize themselves with the product. Due to this oversight, and the fact that the production assistants opened the GoSun to the sun, one of the chefs arrived to the GoSun Sport pre-heated at about 600°F.  She then poured cool water inside creating Thermal Shock.

Solar vacuum tubes are nothing new and are trusted my millions daily for solar hot water heating. As an established industry, these tubes have been installed on rooftops across the world and are built to last the elements for decades. Cooking in the tube however, brings an additional factor into the mix: the human factor.

The following myths should help de-bunk the fear and misinformation about these magical vacuum tubes:

Want to live a life on the road?

Tiffany will show you how.

What some people see as a simple vacation other can make into a lifestyle (or better yet, an art). We discovered Tiffany a few months ago posting on the GoSun Community Kitchen. Her eye-catching recipes came attached with intriguing snip-bits and breathtaking landscapes. We had a feeling that there was a great story behind the photos and reached out to get the inside scoop behind this enigmatic RVing boondocker.

What's your story? How did you get into full time RVing?

I had moved/relocated exactly 40 times as an adult on my own. I have lived in several different states and many cities within those states. I had great experiences due to those moves, but eventually, I tired of buying and selling homes, the packing, the physical moves, etc. So, in the spring of 2014, I decided to simplify my life. What better way to continue to have great experiences and still satisfy my gypsy nature of “moving” than to start RVing?
